Role

As the Director of Product & Technology at WONDR, I led the development of La Plaça, Europe's first neobank Private Social Network (PSN) for 11Onze, the pioneering Catalan fintech. This platform empowers customers through culture, community, and digital engagement, enhancing financial literacy and fostering direct interactions with bank agents.

Challenges

11Onze aimed to revolutionize banking by creating a community-centric platform that combined social networking with financial services. The challenge was to design and develop a seamless, engaging, and secure digital environment that would:

  • Educate users on financial matters.
  • Facilitate direct communication between customers and bank agents.
  • Integrate various digital services into a cohesive user experience.

Under my leadership, our international team in Dublin and Barcelona executed the following:

Community Building

To establish a strong foundation for the 11Onze Private Social Network (PSN), La Plaça, I prioritized community engagement by launching the platform ahead of the core banking application. This strategic decision allowed us to build momentum, attract users, and effectively communicate 11Onze’s unique vision of combining community, education, and finance.

  • Pre-Launch Engagement:
    By launching the PSN before the banking app, we focused on creating a compelling brand narrative and fostering early user adoption. This approach allowed us to introduce 11Onze’s values and objectives, positioning it as a revolutionary player in the fintech space.
  • Integrated Ecosystem:
    I led the design of the 11Onze Bank App, ensuring seamless synchronization with the PSN. This integration allowed users to access financial services alongside community and educational tools, delivering a fully integrated digital experience that redefined user expectations for neobank platforms.

Innovative Design

Drawing inspiration from leading social platforms, I incorporated advanced features and UX patterns to deliver a familiar yet innovative experience tailored to the financial domain.

  • Netflix-Style User Experience:
    I introduced a vertical social network design, inspired by Netflix’s content presentation. This format prioritized discoverability and user engagement by organizing financial resources, videos, and discussions into visually appealing and easily navigable categories.
  • Content Delivery Excellence:
    Leveraging WP Engine for robust backend performance and Brightcove for high-quality video streaming, I ensured that users could access educational content seamlessly across devices. This technology stack provided a smooth, interruption-free experience, enhancing engagement and retention.
  • Personalized Features:
    The platform supported personalized content recommendations, enabling users to discover relevant financial tools and resources aligned with their interests and needs.

Learning Management System (LMS)

A cornerstone of La Plaça was the Learning Management System, which I developed to empower users with financial knowledge while fostering meaningful connections between community members and bank agents.

  • Comprehensive Educational Content:
    The LMS hosted over 1,200 videos and 1,100 articles on topics such as finance, economics, wellbeing, and lifestyle. These resources were meticulously curated to cater to users at different stages of their financial journey.
  • Interactive Learning Modules:
    I implemented interactive modules that encouraged users to engage with the content actively, ensuring deeper understanding and retention of financial concepts.
  • Agent and Peer Engagement:
    The LMS connected users directly with bank agents for expert guidance while facilitating peer-to-peer discussions. This dual-channel approach fostered trust, collaboration, and a sense of community within the platform.

Reward System

To further enhance engagement and drive active participation, I developed an innovative reward system centered around the 'Peles' virtual currency. This system gamified user interactions and aligned with 11Onze’s goal of creating a vibrant, self-sustaining financial community.

  • Custom Interaction Matrix:
    I designed a sophisticated interaction matrix that tracked and weighted user activities such as consuming content, completing learning modules, engaging with posts, and contributing to discussions. This matrix ensured that rewards were distributed equitably based on user contributions.
  • Headless API for Real-Time Rewards:
    The rewards system was powered by a custom headless API, enabling real-time tracking and allocation of Peles. This ensured a seamless and transparent experience, motivating users to stay active within the platform.
  • Integration with Cryptocurrency:
    I architected the system to allow Peles to transition directly into the Peles cryptocurrency, bridging virtual rewards with real-world financial utility. Users could convert their earned Peles into blockchain-backed currency for transactions, reinforcing 11Onze’s vision of merging traditional and decentralized finance.
  • Gamification and Retention:
    Gamified elements, such as leaderboards, achievement badges, and milestone rewards, encouraged ongoing participation. This approach cultivated a thriving community where users actively sought to contribute and engage.
