Transforming Energy Management with Real-Time Visualization: My Role in ESB RTV's Success

As the Director of Product & Technology at WONDR, I had the privilege of leading the development of the Real-Time Visualization (RTV) application for the Electricity Supply Board (ESB). This award-winning platform revolutionized how ESB manages and visualizes data across all Irish power stations, driving operational efficiency and supporting Ireland's transition to sustainable energy.

About the RTV Application

The ESB RTV application serves as a central hub for real-time energy generation and trading data, consolidating information from renewables and traditional power sources into one intuitive interface. This platform empowers ESB to make informed decisions, aligning with their Net Zero 2040 ambitions.

• Data Consolidation: Aggregates complex data from all Irish power stations.

My Role and Contribution

As the Director of Product & Technology, I spearheaded the project from inception to delivery, ensuring every element aligned with ESB’s goals and user needs. Here’s how I contributed to this groundbreaking project:

I conducted workshops with stakeholders at all levels, from C-suite executives to engineers, to define clear goals and key performance indicators (KPIs). These sessions ensured alignment across the organization, setting a strong foundation for the project.

Human-Centered Design

Working closely with the design team, I championed user-centric methodologies, including empathy mapping and iterative usability testing. These processes were instrumental in creating an intuitive interface tailored to diverse user needs.

Technology Leadership

I oversaw the integration of advanced technologies like Google Charts, Google Maps, and SQL Server, ensuring seamless data aggregation and visualization. The modular design allowed the platform to scale as ESB’s data needs evolved.

Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement

Bringing together cross-functional teams, I facilitated collaboration between designers, developers, and ESB’s internal teams. This partnership ensured the platform was both innovative and practical.
